Saturday Six: GLOW

Each weekend, I’ll share six cool finds. Some links may be referral/curator links.

I mentioned it in my last post, but I am a bit obsessed with the Netflix show GLOW.

If you haven’t watched it yet, stop reading this and go do so right now. Not because I’m going to spoil anything, but because it’s so dang good. It’s funny and smart, and watching the women throw each other around the ring and make a space for themselves in a male-dominated industry makes me feel both empowered and left with the urge to wear spandex and glitter.

Season 2  was delightful and the show just received 10 Emmy nominations, so this Saturday Six is an ode to GLOW–spandex included.

Reebok and Netflix collaborated on this GLOW-inspired high tops, available here. Also in rose gold.

I love the mix of prints on this Adidas Originals sports bra. The back view features a palm leaf design. You can never have too many patterns (in the 80s, at least). Available at ASOS.

Speaking of patterns, these leopard-print leggings are perfect for hitting the ring or going out with your girls. Available at ASOS. As an alternate option, I also really like these Adidas palm-print ones.

If you look good, you feel good–and this glitter crop top will help you feel fine while throwing your partner to the mat. Available at ASOS.

Can’t forget about training! Jog it out in this 80s World Gym tank, available from Heavy Soul Vintage on Etsy. This Puma shirt is also similar to one worn by Yo-Yo in Season 2!

And finally, the main event–match night calls for extra flair! Take the crown in this sequin leotard from ASOS.

Tell me: Do you like GLOW? What are your favorite Netflix originals? What’s your favorite ’80s fashion trend?

Saturday Six: My Favorite ’90s Movies

Each weekend, I’ll share six cool finds. Some links may be referral/curator links.

Something about summer always makes me feel nostalgic. I’m not sure if it’s because my birthday is in the summer, or if it just evokes memories of summer vacation and those long, carefree days (why don’t adults get summers off? 😉 ).

I always get the urge to revisit some of my favorite movies during the summer, so I thought I’d run through a list of some of my favorite ’90s movies. I love ’80s movies, but there’s just something a ’90s teen drama. They’re the best!

I tried to keep horror/Halloween movies out of the list (otherwise Hocus Pocus would be at the top!). That’s a whole other blog post.

Grab a flannel, a Squeezit, and a VCR, and let’s get to it!

The OG. Clueless is not only one of my favorite ’90s movies, but it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. Young Paul Rudd… what’s not to like? I saw this one in theaters and have watched it countless times since. Don’t like it? Whatever.

Hackers movie
I had the idea for this post because I felt like watching Hackers. I’d watch this movie every month if I could, but I’m pretty sure my husband is sick of it. (How could he be?) HACK THE PLANET!

Empire Records movie
Well Sinead O’Rebellion… shock me, shock me, shock me with that deviant behavior. Empire Records is another one that I could honestly watch every month. Great cast, fantastic soundtrack, and plenty of teen angst. Damn the man – save the empire!

Trainspotting movie
Trainspotting was the first Ewan McGregor movie I ever saw. Since it started a lifelong obsession with the man, it had to have a place in this list. Also, it’s fantastic (not to mention another great soundtrack). I still get excited whenever Spud shows up in another movie. Another one of my all-time faves.

Dazed and Confused movie
No ode to ’90s teen movies is complete without Dazed and Confused on the list. Perfect for summer. Another stellar cast and soundtrack (the ’90s were crushing it in this department). It’s been a minute, so I think this one is due for a rewatch soon. (I don’t need to quote the line here; you all know it.)

Jawbreaker movie
Let’s visit the dark side of teen drama with Jawbreaker. The original Mean Girls, Jawbreaker warns against obsessing over popularity and losing yourself to make others like you. That’s probably a little too moralistic for the tone of this movie, but for some reason, it’s remained one of my favorites. I’ll also never eat a jawbreaker.

Honorable mentions:

Can't Hardly Wait
I remember my mom taking me to see this one. I’m sorry I repaid you by throwing a party a few years later :(.
Spice World movie
Is Spice World actually a good movie? No. Do I still love it? Hell yes. With cameos by Alan Cumming, Elton John, Stephen Fry, Meat Loaf, and aliens, it’s definitely worth a mention.

Tell me: What are your favorite ’90s movies? Or, what decade makes you feel the most nostalgic?

Saturday Six: Birthday Edition

Each weekend, I’ll share six cool finds. Some links may be referral/curator links.

In the spirit of my birthday weekend, this week’s Saturday Six is dedicated to the best thing a birthday has to offer: CAKE!

I originally wanted to do a cupcake-themed item round-up, but I had a surprisingly hard time finding enough items to share. If you find some cupcake things you love, send them my way!

Now let’s talk about cake!

This Ultimate Funfetti Layer Cake by Beth Cakes looks insanely delicious! Someone make me a vegan version, please!?

This vegan-friendly Oreo Brownie Bottom Funfetti Cake by Contentedness Cooking combines all my favorite flavors into one tasty-looking cake!

Are you guys sensing a theme here? This Funfetti and Cake Batter Ice Cream Cake by Your Homebased Mom offers the best of both worlds (and would be easy enough to veganize!).

OK, I guess I can switch it up briefly, but only for this BTS Cookie Dough Poke Cake by Something Swanky. Want to make it vegan? Try this recipe for vegan sweetened condensed milk.

Sweetapolita’s cakes are gorgeous, and this Birthday Party Ice Cream Cake is no exception! Plus, a whole section of her sprinkles shop is devoted to vegan sprinkles!

I love the combination of raspberry and chocolate! This Vegan Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Frosting by Fragrant Vanilla Cake looks so good and is sweetened with dates!

Tell me: What’s your favorite cake flavor? Do you like cake on your birthday or a different type of dessert?

Saturday Six: Back to Basic

Each weekend, I’ll share six cool finds. Some links may be referral/curator links.

The title of this post probably makes it seem like I’m going to talk about wardrobe basics or maybe some household essentials.

Nope. We’re talking about avocado toast .

Hey, I’m traveling and I needed to pull something together quickly. Also, avocado toast is delicious, and if you make it at home, you won’t go broke.

So here you go–an avocado-toast recipe round-up!

Let’s start with the classic: Vegan Avocado Toast by Minimalist Baker

This Quick and Easy Avocado Toast by The Glowing Fridge adds greens, cucumber, and hemp seeds for that extra oomph.

I’ve subbed in everything bagels for bread and can vouch for its deliciousness with avocado. This round-up from The Kitchn makes use of Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel Salt in this inspired spin on avocado toast.

Looking to switch things up? How about this Smashed Mexican Beans Avocado Toast from Cotter Crunch?

This California-Style Smoky-Sweet Tofu Avocado Toast by Healthy Happy Life works as breakfast or lunch!

If you somehow get tired of avocado toast (but really, how could you?), there’s always this Avocado Toast Salad from Kale & Caramel.

Happy avocado-toast eating!

Tell me: Do you like avocado?

Saturday Six: Oh, Sheet!

Each weekend, I’ll share six cool finds. Some links may be referral/curator links.

If you’ve been reading for a little while, you may remember my Saturday Six: Sweet Dreams post featuring bedding. I ended up buying this comforter, but now I need some new sheets to match! I’d like some fun, patterned options, but luckily there seems to be no shortage.

I like roses and would love this Emily & Meritt Marigold Rose Sheet Set from PBteen.

How pretty are these green marble patterned sheets from Target? They’re less than $20!

You’re going to start to notice a theme here… Pink Bicycle sheets, also from Target.

Again with the cactus theme, but I really like these simple printed sheets! From everyone’s favorite store, Target.

Who wouldn’t feel happy sleeping in flamingo sheets? Yet another Target find!

My cats would love sleeping on these Cat Nap Sheets from Urban Outfitters (and I would, too).

A few other options, just for fun: these Rick and Morty portal sheets and these black-and-white checkered sheets.

Tell me: Are you as Target obsessed as I am? Do you prefer plain or patterned sheets?
